NEW DELHI: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has issued a notice to the Central Government over a petition by the Jammu and Kashmir High Court Bar Association secretary-general, Mr. G.N. Shaheen, regarding the reported refusal of permission by the Government to Mr. Shaheen for attending a conference on minorities in Geneva. He was to attend the current session of the UN Sub-commission on the Prevention of Discrimination and Protection of Minorities from August 3 to 28, but was reportedly denied permission by the Government. His participation was sponsored by a Los Angeles-based NGO. Mr. Shaheen, who holds views on Kashmir prejudicial to Indian interests and favouring the Pakistani viewpoint, alleged in his petition that the Government's action was "totally undemocratic, Unlawful and unwarranted and condemnable".
