Two Top JKLF Freedom-Fighters Martyred in Poonch

Poonch: Two top ranking freedom-fighters of JKLF, Nisar Ahmad Mir and Commander Sajjad alias Tariq were martyred in a fierce mortar shell bombardment by Indian armed forces at a village Fazalabad, Surankot, Poonch in Jammu province of the Indian occupied State of Jammu Kashmir.

Indian forces surrounded the village Fazalabad, Surankot in Distt. Poonch of Indian occupied Jammu province of Kashmir on June 21, 1998 to get hold of JKLF activists who were going to hold a meeting in the area. The forces bombarded the house with mortar shells in which JKLF members were holed in during the crack-down which resulted death of Nisar Ahmad Mir, Sajjad alias Tariq and 5 civilians and injuries to over 40 persons and total destruction of six houses.

Mr Nisar Ahmad Mir, a staunch follower of independent Kashmir ideology was recently elevated to the position of Convenor of JKLF for Jammu province by Mr Amanullah Khan, Chairman JKLF while Mr Sajjad alias Tariq was front-line activist of the area. Death of Mr Nisar Ahmad Mir sent a shock-wave among the rank and file of JKLF.

Meanwhile, Mr Amanullah Khan, Chairman JKLF; Dr. Haider Hijazi, Secretary General; Hafiz Anwar Samavi, Chief Organiser; S. M. Afzal, Sardar Khadim Hussain, Sardar Aftaab Hussain Advocate, Zahid Habib Shaikh, S. Saghir A. Khan Advocate and Manzoor A. Khan, members of CEC of the organisation and other JKLF members including Raja Haq Nawaz, M. Ishaq Sharif, Hafiz Mumtaz, M. Saleem Butt and Aejaz Ahmad Lone expressed their great shock and termed the death of Nisar Ahmad Mir and Sajjad a great loss. Paying rich tributes to the martyrs, the JKLF leaders said that though it was part of the freedom struggle but the services and sacrifices of Mr Nisar Ahmad Mir and his colleagues have become a bright chapter of history of Kashmir liberation struggle. JKLF leaders said that Mr Nisar Ahmad Mir was an exemplary freedom fighter who never bowed to material pressures and temptations but stood with firm determination by the cause and struggle of independence ideology.

The JKLF leaders added that no amount of loss will keep them from continuing their freedom struggle. "To offer any kind of sacrifices for independent Kashmir and to face trials and tribulations, attached to foreign subjugation, is the pledged commitment of every sincere, honest, dedicated and patriotic JKLF member", these leaders re-affirmed.
