J and K minister's house attacked

Srinagar: Militants made an abortive attempt to blow up the ancestral house of Jammu and Kashmir Minister for Works A M Sagar in downtown Srinagar today, official sources said. The heavily-guarded house of the minister, who is ranked number three in the ruling National Conference, in Zaldager area was attacked by militants with grenades, they said, However, the explosives missed the target and fell short of the house without causing any damage, the sources told PTI. The policemen guarding the house fired a few shots in the air to scare away the militants, the sources said. The attack caused panic among the people. Shopkeepers immediately downed their shuters and movement of traffic came to a halt in the area, the sources said. No militant outfit has claimed responsibility for the attack so far. In view of bi-annual Darbar move, Sagar alongwith his family is putting up in Jammu presently.
