Govt describes secret US diplomacy report speculative
7 June 2000
New Delhi: Government yesterday described as ''speculative'' and ''baseless'' reports that the U S was sponsoring intensive secret diplomacy to bring India, Pakistan and Kashmiri insurgents to the negotiating table. Responding to questions, a foreign office spokesman said, ''The story is speculative and baseless. Government of India sees no no role of any kind for any third party in the Jammu and Kashmir issue.'' The reports had quoted Jane''s Intelligence Digest, a sister publication of Jane''s Defence Weekly, as saying that White House was using the services of an American Kashmiri who was constantly shuttling between Delhi, Islamabad and Washington as part of the secret diplomatic initiative.
