New Delhi: The people of Ladakh will hold a week long protest against ''greater autonomy'' for the state as proposed by the Jammu and Kashmir government. The protest, beginning Monday, will include sit-ins and demonstrations in the region and will be organised by the Ladakh Buddhist Association. The protest will be held at Leh and other block headquarters of Nyoma, Khaltsi and Padum, a senior leader of the body said. ''The Ladakhis are apprehensive that the proposed step for greater autonomy for the state or to restore pre-1953 position will harm the interests of the Ladakhi people who have been clamouring for Union Territory status for a long time'' he said.
