25 militants, NC leader among 29 killed in J&K

Srinagar: A National Conference block president and 25 militants were among 29 people killed in Jammu and Kashmir since last night while five others were arrested, official sources said today. Militants shot dead a deputy block president of National Conference, Mohammad Rajab Bhat, at Baramulla last evening while he was on his way home, the sources said. Four unidentified militants and two security personnel were killed in an on-going encounter which broke out yesterday during a combing operation launched by security forces at Hajibal village in Baramulla district of north Kashmir, they said, adding that five residential houses were also gutted. In another operation, two militants were killed in an encounter at Gadole in Anantnag district today, the sources said, and added that it was still continuing when reports last came in. Two Pakistani militants, identified as Gayur and Ahsan Ali (both residents of Karachi), were gunned down in an encounter during a night-long joint operation by the BSF and the Special Operations Group of the local police at Tregam-Shadipora on the outskirts of Srinagar. Some arms and ammunition were also recovered, they said.
