Gujjars vow to launch agitation against Autonomy

Jammu: Gujjars United Front, J&K Gujjar Welfare Organisation and Gujjar Islahi Committee have strongly condemned the National Conference Government for passing resolution demanding Autonomy in the State Assembly. Mr Anwar Choudhary, president of the Front in a strongly worded statement has alleged that Dr Farooq Abdullah by resorting to this act has hurt the sentiments of over twenty lakh Gujjar- Bakerwals in the State. He said that Report clearly recommends the omission of Article 338 to 342 of the Indian Constitution under which the Gujjars of the J&K have been granted scheduled Tribes status. He urged upon the Central Government to reject the demanded outrightly which is against the wishes and aspirations of the most of the people of the State. Mr Mohammed Younis Chauhan, president Gujjar welfare Organisation while opposing the autonomy report, described it as anti-Gujjar and anti-India. He condemned the Gujjar leaders sitting in the ruling party and remained mock spectators. He threatened to launch an agitation over this issue. Another Gujjar leader, Mr Ghulam Rasool Asgar strongly condemned the NC Governmentís move and said that NC has turned totally against the Tribal people. Itís designs have been exposed before the public. he also warned that a massive agitation would be launched soon against the ruling party.
