APHC ridicules autonomy resolution

30 June 2000

ISLAMABAD: A senior leader of All Parties Hurriyet Conference (APHC) Abdul Ghani Butt has ridiculed the autonomy resolution saying Kashmiris have not rendered sacrifices for distribution of power. In an interview with Voice of America, the APHC leader said that the focal point of the Kashmiris'' struggle is that future of the state be determined by the will of the Kashmiris. ''As for autonomy, it is useless as in this way, we cannot move even a step forward towards self determination. We do not want to talk about distribution of powers between Delhi and Srinagar'', he said. Butt said that Kashmiris have rendered sacrifices for finding a solution to the Kashmir issue. Autonomy is no solution to the core issue of Kashmir. ''We want a lasting solution to Kashmir in accordance with aspirations of the people. It is very good if a solution to the issue is found through talks. But if it is not resolved through talks, then let it happen what is going on'', the APHC leader observed.
