KHANNABAL: The three-member committee probing the attack on Amarnath pilgrims at Pahalgam this year has completed its investigation and would submit its report shortly. The committee, headed by security advisor to the state government, Lt Gen. J R Mukherji, corps commander, was constituted after the August 1 firing incident at the base camp in Pahalgam in which 32 people, including 22 Amarnath yatris, were killed. The district development commissioner, Anantnag, G A Peer, who is also a member of the committee, told reporters the investigation was completed ahead of the expiry of the three months time granted to the panel to submit its report. He said recording of statements of local people who were injured in the attack was completed earlier but the committee extended the time till September 21 for the victims from outside the state to send in their written statements. Appeals were made to people through electronic and print media within and outside the state to either personally depose before the commiteee or send their affidavit providing eye-witness accounts of the incident. He said a questionnaire was also circulated for the purpose. Refusing to divulge details of the report, Peer said more than 200 people have recorded their statements before the committee. On the Brakpora firing incident, Peer said the probe by the commission of enquiry headed by Justice S R Pandian was nearing completion.
