3 BSF men killed on Srinagar-Jammu road

Srinagar: Three BSF men were killed and four others injured when militants detonated an improvised explosive device (IED) on the Srinagar-Jammu national highway this morning. Elsewhere in the State ten persons including two commanders of the Hizbul Mujahideen and two security force personnel were killed in militancy-related incidents. The militants targeted a BSF convoy going from Srinagar to Jammu near Khooni kallah, about 160 km from here. According to the IGP Jammu zone, Mr Radhavinod Raju, the IED was planted on the road and as the vehicles crossed the area it went off.One of the vehicles was damaged completely. Two BSF men were killed on the spot and another one succumbed to his injuries on way to hospital.Traffic on the highway came to a grinding halt for many hours as the security forces suspected that some more IED''s had been planted. A search operation was launched. In another incident, the security forces noticed the movements of militants at Jandrola village in the Mandi area of Poonch. The area was cordoned off and a search operation launched.In an enounter that followed, one militant of Jaish-e-Mohammad and a jawan were killed.The security forces chased the fleeting militants, three of whom were killed in another encounter. In yet encounter at Watnar Kokernag, one company commander of the Hizbul Mujahideen was killed at Seel Bandhas Doda. The preceding night some unknown gunmen shot dead Khazir Mohammad Dar Numberdar of Mala Ganipora vilage in Sopore. One jawwan was killed in an exchange of fire at Kotal Doda. In an encounter which occurred at Dardpora village in Kupwara, after the security forces cordoned off the area, one platoon comander of the Hizbul Mujahideen was killed.
