Militants kill 3, wound three SPOs in Kashmir

SRINAGAR: Militants shot dead three persons, including a fellow ultra, and wounded three special police officers (SPOs) in the Kashmir Valley since Tuesday evening, a police spokesman said on Wednesday. Militants hurled a grenade on an Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) vehicle which exploded without causing any damage at Bijbehara in Anantnag district on Tuesday, he said. The body of a Jaish-e-Muhammad activist was recovered by police at Tral in Pulwama district on Tuesday. Investigations showed that the militant was killed due to inter-group rivalry between the militants. Militants shot dead two youths, one each at Qazibagh-Anantnag and Kulpora-Kulgam in Anantnag district on Tuesday, the spokesman said, adding the ultras also shot at and critically wounded a security informer, Mukhtar Ahmad Malla in Gowkadal in Srinagar on Tuesday evening. The spokesman said militants also shot at and critically injured SPOs Shahnawaz and Mohammad Yousuf Wania at Palhalan-Pattan and Nelo-Kulgam in Anantnag. Meanwhile, one Lahker militant, Javed Ahmad Wagay, has been arrested at Watlar-Ganderbal in Srinagar. Another militant, Mohammad Ismail, was arrested after security forces recovered a pistol, one silencer, two magazines and 14 rounds of ammunition from his possession in the frontier district of Kupwara, he said.
