16 killed in Kashmir

SRINAGAR: Sixteen people, including five militants, a policeman and a Pakistani intruder, were killed and eight injured in Jammu and Kashmir, where security forces arrested six militants since Sunday night. In a gruesome attack, unidentified militants killed five people after taking them hostage at Dara Sangla village of Poonch district in Jammu region, an official spokesman said here Monday. He said a group of militants abducted the five persons from their village and shot them. A search operation has been launched to apprehend the culprits. He said a Pakistani intruder was killed by the police in Ramgarh sector of Jammu, while security forces gunned down three militants in separate encounters at Khooja hills, Kandi and Naushera in Rajouri district Sunday. Security personnel arrested six militants, two of them in an injured condition, and seized a huge cache of arms and ammunition from them, he said.(PTI)
