Srinagar: Union Minister for Industries and Commerce Omar Abdullah questioned the representative character of Hurriyat and said that aligning it with the people of Jammu and Kashmir was "wrong". Hurriyat might have little influence in certain pockets but it does not represent the people of the state. "New Delhi and the world must appreciate this reality," Omar said inaugurating a branch of the Jammu and Kashmir Bank at Gund-Kangan on the outskirts of Srinagar. He said: "The National Conference (NC) as a mass-based party had withstood the test of time and satiated the urges and aspirations of the people of Jammu and kashmir." Stating that the Government has taken many steps in the past five years to mitigate the problems of the state and is credited with numerous achievements, he said those who oppose it should go by the track record and achievements of the party.
