Blasts hit border fencing in J-K

Jammu: MILITANTS TRIGGERED two bomb explosions near the international border in the Kanachak sector of Jammu division damaging seven pillars meant for border fencing. The first blast that took place around 02:00 am at Beli Azmat damaged seven pillars, a police spokesman said, adding another blast occurred around 09:00 am in the vicinity of the Mata Tali area. No loss was reported. The militants, who had sneaked from across the border, had planted the time bombs and later escaped to Pakistan, he said. However, "there was no casualty in these blasts, which took place about four to five hundred metres inside our territory," the spokesman said. This was the second such incident along the IB in the past four days. On May 19, 20 pillars were damaged in two blasts in the Ramgarh sector of the division. Meanwhile, exchange of fire between Pakistani rangers and the BSF troops took place in four places along the IB in Jammu last night. However, no casualty or damage was reported from the Indian side, the spokesman said. Meanwhile, two special police officers (SPOs), a jawan and a constable were among 15 people killed while an ultra was nabbed with four kgs of RDX in militancy-related incidents in Jammu and Kashmir since last night, an official spokesman said. Two SPOs, a policeman and seven ultras, were killed in an encounter lasting several hours in the Warwan area of Doda district. Five policemen received serious injuries. Three militants, believed to be activists of Hizbul Mujahideen, and an army jawan were killed in an armed clash at Pakhipora in Baramulla district today, he said adding a civilian lost his life and three houses were gutted during the encounter which broke out early this morning. Three AK assault rifles, six magazines, a pistol and a remote control device were recovered from the possession of the slain militants. The spokesman said, 11 civilians were injured when a grenade, lobbed by militants towards an army vehicle, missed the target and exploded at Kunzar Chowk in Baramulla today. An IED planted by militants went off at Magam.
