Jammu: A bomb exploded outside the railway station in Jammu late Monday night, injuring 50 people, police said. The explosive, fitted with a timer, was planted in a two-wheeled scooter parked outside an office at Jammu's sole railway station where soldiers reserve train tickets, an official at the city police control room said, speaking on condition of anonymity. Fifteen of the injured were Army soldiers, while the others were civilians. The civilian victims were rushed to two hospitals in Jammu, 500 kilometers (300 miles) northwest of New Delhi, where seven of them were in serious condition, police said. The army gave no indication of how seriously the soldiers were injured. The explosion took place at 9:30 pm. No one claimed responsibility for the explosion but police blamed militants. Police said the explosion took place despite heavy security at the railway station, which had been beefed up following two earlier explosions in trains in Jammu last year.
