7 killed, 10 kg RDX seized in Kashmir

Srinagar: Seven people, including a militant and a security jawan, were killed in separate incidents while security forces seized 10 kg of deadly RDX and some arms ammunition in the Kashmir Valley since Sunday night, an official spokesman said here on Monday. One militant was killed in an encounter with security forces at Ringwarnu in Kupwara district on Monday. A rifle and four magazines were recovered from him, the spokesman said. Militants on Monday stopped a private bus, which was on its way to Beerwah from Loolipora, near Kanihama in Badgam district and shot dead two passengers, including a retired soldier. Militants ambushed an Army patrol at Devar in Kupwara, killing a jawan and wounding two others. The troops retaliated but the militants escaped, he said. A former militant was killed by militants inside his house at Jarand-Khurd in Badgam district on Sunday night, he said. Militants hurled a grenade towards an Army patrol at Safapora Chowk in Baramulla district on Sunday night killing a person on the spot. In a major operation, the Army busted a militant hideout near Kupwara town on Sunday night and recovered 10 KG of deadly RDX, an under-barrel grenade launcher, a flame thrower, a pistol, its two magazines with 32 rounds. Besides, a disposable rocket launcher, 18 grenades, an anti-tank mine, two anti-personnel mines, two remote control devices and some incriminating documents were seized, he said adding one person was arrested in this connection.
