Series of blasts in Kashmir, 26 killed

Srinagar: A series of landmine blasts, rifle and hand grenade explosions and shootouts left three Army personnel and a policeman dead and six wounded across the Valley on Saturday. Sixteen militants and five civilians were also killed in other incidents of violence. A grenade explosion in Anantnag left one person dead and 14 injured. Sources said that militants struck in a big way, when they blew up an Army vehicle by activating an improvised explosive device (IED) at Pahloo village in southern Kulgam tehsil. Three soldiers were killed and six jawans were wounded in the incident. The Hizbul Mujahideen owned responsibility for the attack. A caller identifying himself as the spokesperson of the outfit claimed that over a dozen security personnel were killed or injured in the blast. Militants also shot dead a selection grade constable of Jammu and Kashmir Police at Hari Singh High Street in the capital''s civil lines area, this afternoon. Jaish-e-Mohammad claimed the constable was associated with a special operation group and was killed by their activists.
