Hizb commander killed in Kashmir

Srinagar: Five people including a self-styled battalion Commander of Hizbul Mujahideen and two labourers of Border Roads Organisation (BRO) were killed in separate incidents, while BSF smashed a militant hideout in Kashmir Valley since Thursday night, official sources said. The Hizb militant, identified as Nazir Ahmad Khan, was killed in an encounter with army at Lach-Mawar near Nowgam in Handwara area of Kupwara district on Thursday night, they said, adding that an AK assault rifle, a wireless set and some ammunition and grenades were recovered from the slain militant. Army search parties also killed an unidentified militant in an encounter at Farkiagali in Kupwara on Friday, they said. Two labourers working with BRO were killed and another labourer was wounded when militants ambushed two vehicles carrying non-Kashmiri labourers at Matrigam in Gurez sector of Baramulla district.
