POONCH: Army and police today gunned down three terrorists of Jaish-e- Mohammed (JeM) outfit including a hardcore terrorist Zubair Afghani after a fierce three hour gun-battle in Naika Majari forests in Gursai area of Mendhar tehsil. Zubair Afghani was a dreaded terrorist and had infiltrated into Poonch about three months back to boost the sagging morale of Jaish terrorists, official sources said. Jaish has suffered a major reverse with the killing of Zubair, they added. According to sources, army and police launched a joint search operation in Nakajari forests this afternoon after police developed an information about movement of the terrorists including Zubair in the forests. As the security personnel were laying a siege of the forests, they were fired upon by the terrorists. Army and police jawans retaliated. While two terrorists were killed within first 20 minutes of the operation, Zubair continued to give a tough fight to the troops for next over two and a half hours. Finally, Zubair was eliminated by the troops with direct firing of a grenade launcher. He was blown into pieces. Identity of two other slain terrorists was established as Mast Gul and Shabeer R-o Surankot. Army or police didnít suffer any casualties in the operation, the sources said, adding three AK rifles, five magazines, 100 kg deadly RDX, three RPG rounds, a radio set and three pouches were recovered from the scene of encounter. RDX had been dumped by the terrorists in the same forest area for fabricating Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), they said. Zubair was involved in a number of civilian killings besides attacks on the security personnel in different areas of Poonch district during last six months. He continued to shift his hideouts from one place to another to escape dragnet of the security forces.
