SRINAGAR: Militants of Pak-based Lashker-e-Taiba on Monday made an abortive attempt to attack Border Security Force headquarters by firing four rifle grenades at the heavily-guarded campus here.Militants fired the grenades in quick succession towards the BSF headquarters housing the offices of senior officers of the force including Inspector General''s office at Sanatnagar around 8.55 am, official sources said. However, the grenades missed the intended target and exploded outside the BSF headquarters without causing any damage or casualty, the sources said. While one grenade exploded near a feul dump, three others exploded outside telephone exchange located near the headquarter, causing panic among the people in the area, they said adding a BSF jawan was slightly injured in the melee. The LeT have claimed responsibility for the attack and asked people to keep away from security pickets and camps.''The attack was carried out by our activists,'' a spokesman of the outfit told news organisations here. This was the first major strike by any foreign militant group active in Kashmir valley this year.LeT had virtually suspended their activities in the Kashmir valley following Pakistan government''s crackdown on Pak-based militant leadership in that country and subsequent imposition of ban on their organisation and the Jaish-e- Mohammad in January, this year.
