Retd HC judge to probe DNA fudging in Kashmir

JAMMU: A retired judge of Jammu and Kashmir High Court, Justice G A Kuchhai, will head the one-man commission to probe fudging of DNA samples of the relatives of five people killed in an encounter with security forces, it was announced here on Thursday. The issue was brought to light by the Times of India.Kuchhai will inquire whether the DNA samples collected from residents of Pathribal village of Anantnag district in March 2000 was fake or spurious, according to a notification issued by the government.The notification said Kuchhai will also probe into the circumstances under which the samples were collected and fix responsibility on persons directly or indirectly involved in fudging of samples.The commission is expected to submit its report to the government within two months.The state government has already placed under suspension five doctors and a police officer, who were associated with collection and transportation of DNA samples for tests.
