SRINAGAR: Efforts are on to give shape to a political alliance in Kashmir, which the makers claim will try to work towards finding an amicable settlement to the Kashmir issue through democratic means. They are also not averse to joining the electoral process and are eyeing for support from some constituents of the All-Party Hurriyat Conference. Publicly known as the separatist moderates, these groups and individuals comprising 40 political activists met here on Monday to formulate a plan to give a final shape to the front, apparently parallel to the Hurriyat Conference. Leading the process of ''uniting like-minded groups and individuals'' are Abdul Khaliq Parray alias Hanief and Abdur Rasheed Naikoo. Mr. Hanief is a former Jamat-e- Islami leader and was a close confidante of senior Hurriyat Conference leader, Syed Ali Geelani. He was expelled from the Jamat- e-Islami recently for a meeting with A.S. Dulat, Officer on Special Duty in the Prime Minister''s Office (PMO).
