POONCH: The Union Minister of State for External Affairs, Mr. Omar Abdullah has vehemently opposed the demand of RSS about the trifurcation of State saying that it was aimed at weakening secular and democratic fabric of Jammu and Kashmir. He said it is against the very interests of the State as well as the country to demand trifurcation on religious and communal lines. Mr. Omar Abdullah was addressing a mammoth public meeting at Mandi and Bandi Chechian in Poonch district today. Terming the demand of RSS as anti-national and anti-State. Mr. Omar said RSS has no locus standi to project such demands and decide the fate of the people living here. He said the demand tantamount to the two-nation theory of Mr. Jenah. He said such forces are unmindful of repercussion of the ideology they are propagating and added that the Jammu and Kashmir is model of secular values where people of all faith, live together in communal harmony since immemorial. He said the State of Jammu and Kashmir was presently passing through difficult times and added that forces inimical to peace and stability are hatching conspiracy against the Government and people by raising bogey of the division of the State. He said no power on earth can disintegrate the State as people here pay no heed to communal politics and separatist tendencies being flanted from within and outside. Mr. Omar Abdullah said NC has always fought vigorously against separatist and anti national forces and has suffered many trials and tribulations to strengthen social democratic and secular values and traditions. He said the slogan of Sher-i-Kashmir Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah calling for Hindu Muslim Sikh unity very much speaks about the NCís ideology aimed at unity and integrity of the State. He cautioned the people against machination of such forces who are bent upon to divide the State on communal lines to meet their political interests. He said all the political parties should rise to the occasion irrespective of their party politics and unitedly fight such forces and frustrate their evil designs. Referring to the decade long militancy Mr. Omar said the State has suffered colossal loss of precious lives and property, which is very difficult to compassionate. He said during last elections nobody was ready to participate in polls due to fear of gun and insecurity. He said, however, now the situation has considerably changed and in present atmosphere even Hurriyat Conference and Jamiat-i-Islami are reluctant to issue any statement against elections. Because these parties have now well realized that the gun culture has yielded no results except death and destruction. Among others the Finance Minister, Mr. Abdul Rahim Rather and the Minister of State for Home, Khalid Najeeb Soharwordhy were also present on the occasion. Mr. Omar Abdullah said that the matter regarding according of Scheduled Tribe status to the Pahari speaking people has been vigorously taken up with the Centre by the Chief Minister Dr. Farooq Abdullah. Mr. Omar Abdullah was addressing a mammoth public meeting at Mandi and Bandi Chechian in Poonch district today. He said according of ST status to Pahari speaking people was a central subject and it will take some time to meet the demand. However, the demand for according OBC status would be taken up during the ensuing Assembly session commencing from 15th of July at Srinagar. He said demand of upgradation of the school, creation of new block and on-spot recruitment at Bandi Chachian would be taken up with the concerned Ministers for immediate response. Referring to the development scenario in the State, Mr. Omar said that tremendous achievements have been registered in various development sectors during the past six years of present Government particularly employment generation, rural development and upliftment of weaker sections. He said that present Government is committed to ensure balanced growth of all regions of the State. Rejecting the allegations by some vested interests about the discrimination with Jammu and Ladakh Mr. Omar said, such allegations are baseless and are aimed to malign the NC Government, which enjoys unflinching support of the people owing to its pro people policies. He called upon the people to unitedly fight divisive forces bent upon to divide the State on communal lines. He said that Government is well aware about the difficulties faced by the border people due to shelling from across the border. He said the State Government is making concerted efforts to rehabilitate the effected people and provide them adequate relief. Later, the Minister inaugurated a hospital at Mandi. During his tour the Minister was accompanied by State Finance Minister, Mr. Abdul Rahim Rather and Minister of State for Home, Mr. Khalid Najeeb Soharwardhy.
