Two infiltration bids foiled, five terrorists killed in J&K

Srinagar: With terrorists stepping up infiltration bids to disrupt elections in the Valley, Army on Thursday foiled two attempts killing five terrorists in Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir, official sources said here. Three terrorists, believed to be foreigners, were killed when Rashtriya Rifles personnel engaged a group of terrorists trying to infiltrate into Sarkoli area of Kupwara in the wee hours. Two infiltrators were killed near the Line of Control in Kalaroos sector, the sources said. The operation in both the areas was continuing, they said. With today''s killings, the number of infiltrators shot dead by security personnel in the past one week has increased to 14. Nine intruders were shot dead in Machil sector on August 29. Infiltration bids have increased in the Valley in the past two months in view of the assembly elections, they said.
