208 terrorists killed in 92 infiltration bids along J-K border

Jammu: More than 500 civilians have been killed by extremists in Jammu and Kashmir till September this year, a Defence spokeman said in Jammu. He said nearly 200 terrorists, including 69 foreign mercenaries, were killed in counter infiltration operations along borders with Pakistan. Of 209 extremists killed in the 92 infiltration bids, 77 were gunned down last month alone, 23 in July and 109 between January and June this year, the spokesman said. A total of 929 extremists 414 foreigners, 278 locals and 237 unidentified were killed in various operations by security forces during last eight months, he said. Besides, a huge quantity of arms and explosives were recovered in these operations during the period. It included 1061 different rifles, 33 rocket launchers, 30 machine guns, 228 revolvers-pistols, 5293 grenades, 1210 kg of explosives and 359 radio sets. During last eight months militants killed 569 civilians in Jammu and Kashmir compared to 78 during the corresponding period last year.
