Jammu: The J-K government would consider the Centre’s suggestion to set up a committee to screen cases of political prisoners before releasing them, Deputy Chief Minister Mangat Ram Sharma said today. ‘‘The Centre wants a committee to decide the release of political prisoners in J-K... The state government will consider this suggestion,’’ he told mediapersons here. However, he said the release of a few political prisoners should not be politicised. Minister for Finance, Planning, Law and Parliamentary Affairs Muzaffar Hussain Beig said the decision to release political prisoners was to fulfil the aspirations of the people of the state but it did not mean that the state government was not concerned about national interest. ‘‘We have synthesised local aspirations with national interests in this direction,’’ he said.
