Terrorists attack CRPF camp in J&K, five jawans killed

Srinagar: Two terrorists of a suicide squad carried out a major strike on a CRPF camp in the heart of Srinagar on Friday morning killing five jawans and injuring 10 before being shot dead, police said. The terrorists carried out the attack on the camp located in Pamposh hotel in Regal Chowk area around 5.45 am, they said. CRPF IG Hemant Kumar Sarin said that two terrorists were detected in the compound where the camp is located and were challenged by the CRPF jawans leading to a fierce gunbattle. He said two terrorists died while it appeared there was a third terrorist firing from outside. Though no terrorist outfit has claimed responsility so far, Sarin said it was a suicide squad and did not rule out involvement of Jaish-e-Mohamad or Lashkar-e-Taiba. The entire area has been sealed and search was on to locate the third terrorist. The attack came a day after the newly- elected state assembly began its session with a call by the PDP- Congress coalition government to the Centre to initiate unconditional dialogue with MLAs and members of all sections of the society to resotore peace in the society.
