Srinagar: Six civilians were killed in Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday when separatist guerrillas detonated a land mine in a bid to target an Indian Army convoy. The incident took place in the north Kashmir town of Baramulla, 65 km from this summer capital of the state. Police sources said the guerrillas had wanted to blow up an army vehicle. But the blast missed the target and killed four passers-by instantly. Two others who were critically injured died in a hospital. Security forces immediately cordoned off the area of the blast, close to a bank. Around 40,000 people have died in a Muslim separatist campaign raging in Jammu and Kashmir since 1989.
