Suicide attacker stayed in hotel

Jammu: The lone suicide attacker, killed in the Friday night operation in Poonch town stayed in Anand Hotel, which was the scene of the action for several hours. His body was recovered after security personnel entered the hotel late at night. The bodies of three civilians, residents of Poonch, were also recovered from the debris of the hotel where a prolonged encounter took place on Friday between the militants and the security forces. Six persons had died in the attack. A DSP, a head constable and a civilian were killed outside the hotel in the exchange of fire. Earlier reports suggested that a CRPF personnel was killed but police today said it was a civilian who had died. The killed militant was said to be have been around 22 years old. A rifle, one magazine and 10 rounds were recovered. Sources said the militant had taken lunch in the hotel and had claimed to be an Army officer from the south. The possibility of more 'fidayeen'( suicide squad) operating along with him at the time of the encounter could not be ruled out, a senior police officer told The Hindu. The body of the DSP, Manjeet Singh, was consigned to the flames with full police honours. The body of Manohar Lal, head constable, was cremated in his native village at Samba with full honours. Army seizes RDX The Army busted a militant hideout in Doda district last evening and seized 200 kg of deadly RDX. According to an Army spokesman here, on a tip-off that the RDX was concealed at the hideout, the jawans launched an operation and seized the explosive. In another operation in the Mahore area in Udhampur district, security forces busted another hideout last evening seizing 42 rounds of AK ammunition, three AK magazines, 24 UMG rounds, two hand grenades and eight UBGL grenades, the spokesman added.
