Dehra Dun: Vice-chairperson of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) Mehbooba Mufti is on a rampage, saving hundreds of J-K students in Western Uttar Pradesh and Uttaranchal from being 'harassed' by the police and college authorities. Mehbooda Mufti visited Meerut, Muzzafarnagar in western Uttar Pradesh and Roorkee in Uttaranchal and listened to the woes of the students from J-K today. Following the the arrest of two Kashmiri students who were studying agriculture in Shamli college of Muzzafarnagar district for their alleged links with terrorists recently, these students were allegedly facing harassment at the hands of police and college authorities. The students also complained that under pressure of the police, their landlords had also asked them to bring verification certificates from J-K police or vacate their houses. Mehbooba expressed annoyance at the 'harassment' of innocent students from her state. Talking to mediapersons at Roorkee, Mehbooba, who has come as an emissary of the J-K government, said that asking innocent students to prove their credentials time and again would not be tolerated. She said that she would be meeting the Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister in New Delhi soon to apprise them of the situation and request them to put an end to the alleged harassment of J-K students studying outside. She said she would also take up the matter with Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati and her Uttaranchal counterpart N.D. Tiwari. After the December 13 attack on Parliament, Tariq Masoodi, a native of Sopore in Kashmir and a trainee producer at the Audio-Visual Research Centre of IIT, Roorkee, had come to be called a 'terrorist'.
