Army kills imam, son in J&K

SRINAGAR: Army personnel mistook an imam of a local mosque and his son as militants and shot them dead in Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir, triggering massive demonstrations in the area on Monday. Abdul Qayoom Peer, the imam, and his son, Masood Ahmad Peer, were on their way home at Kreeri in the Pattan area, 30 kms from here, on Sunday night, when they come under fire. The soldiers said they opened fire when they saw some movement at adjoining Wagoora village. The troops had laid an ambush, after being tipped off about movement of militants in the village.
