Kashmir Gets PM's 3,000-cr Package

Srinagar: Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee on Thursday formally launched a package to provide 1 lakh employment opportunities to the people of Jammu and Kashmir, involving a financial commitment of Rs 3000 crore by handing over cheques to 20 beneficiaries here Thursday evening. The Prime Minister during his visit to the state on April 18 and 19, 2003 had announced a 1 lakh employment package for the state in two years in different sectors like textile, roads and railways small and medium industries , information technology and communication, tourism and education. The job opportunities were identified and details worked out by a task force set up by the Centre on May 23 this year under the chairmanship of Cabinet Secretary. Expressing gratitude to the Prime Minister, the Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mufti Sayeed said that the PM has fulfilled his commitment. He said the implementation of the employment package would address the unemployment problem in the state.
