NA judiciary demands separation

GILGIT: Northern Areas High Court Bar Association (NAHCBA) President advocate Muzaffar Ali, General Secretary Javed Iqbal and Joint Secretary Haji Muhammad Jamal Khan Advocate said on Saturday the Northern Areas judiciary should be separated from the Kashmir Affairs and Northern Areas (KANA) to ensure the judiciary's independence.They said the KANA set up was aimed to curb the judiciary's freedom and demanded KANA withdraw its decision to downgrade three sessions judges who were made additional sessions judges in the Northern Areas (NA). The NAHCBA demanded the government implement the Supreme Court's May 28 decision regarding the region's rights and called on the Supreme Court to take suo motu action against the government for not implementing its decision on time. They also demanded the creation of three additional districts and sessions judge posts.
