Doda migrants seek NHRC intervention against discrimination

Jammu: Zila Doda Migrant Welfare Committee has criticised Relief Commissioner (Migrants), Jammu, for categorising migrants between Kashmiri migrants and Doda migrants. A meeting of the Doda migrants was held, here today to discuss the issue and condemn the statement of Relief Commissioner according to which he refused to release amount for installation of water point at Panchayat Bhawan near Rail Head Complex as the funds were only for Kashmiri migrants Observing that the irrelevant uttrances have created a gulf between the Kashmiri migrants and Doda migrants living near Rail Head complex Sarai, the meet reminded the Relief Commissioner that a migrant is only a migrant, whether he belongs to Kashmir or Doda. The meet made an appeal to the Central as well as State Government to look into the matter and ask the concerned authorities to desist from unconstitutional attempts. The meet also made an appeal to the National Human Rights Commission to take cognizance of such occurrences against the Doda migrants living in Jammu or elsewhere. Mr Dalip Sharma, who chaired the meeting, appealed NHRC to intervene and ask the Government not to discriminate with Doda migrants in respect of providing them essential relief.
