Former J&K minister booked for misusing official position

Srinagar: A senior National Conference (NC) leader and former housing minister of Jammu and Kashmir has been booked by the state vigilance organisation (VO) for allegedly misusing his official position.Along with Ghulam Mohiuddin Shah, the NC leader in the state Assembly and the first senior politician booked by the VO, some senior state officials have also been accused of offences.A statement issued by the VO here said the former NC minister had allotted a land strip to a ML Koul in the Roop Nagar housing colony flouting the price fixed by the board of directors of Jammu Development Authority (JDA).'The board of directors of JDA had sold nearly 100 plots at market rates that time. However, the NC minister colluded with a senior state official. By abusing their official positions, the strip of land was sold to Koul at Rs 2,000 per 'marla' (measurement of land) against the rate of Rs 5,500,' said a VO official.Shah is also a close relative of former chief minister Farooq Abdullah.'The former minister, who was at that time ex-officio chairman of JDA, got a plot allotted in his favour at a premium of Rs 59,558 as against Rs 2,03,750 worked out by JDA, thereby causing loss to JDA and corresponding pecuniary gain to himself,' the VO statement said.A senior state vigilance officer has been entrusted with the job of investigating the matter.
