Hizb Commander Gunned Down In Kashmir

Srinagar: Seven militants, including an area commander of Hizbul Mujahideen outfit, were killed in Jammu and Kashmir , an official spokesman said on Saturday. Meanwhile, militants carried out two abortive bids to target a police station and an army convoy in separate incidents in the state. Three militants were killed in a gunbattle with the Rashtriya Rifles during a combing operation at Safawali in Kupwara, he said adding three AK rifles and four hand grenades were among the arms recovered from the slain militants. Saleem Zaffer, the Hizbul Mujahideen's self-styled area commander, was killed in an encounter at Tarana Khari in Doda district in Jammu , the spokesman said. Two foreign militants belonging to the al-Badr outfit, Umar Shaheen and Abu Sayeed, were killed in a gunfight with security forces at Leeran Malhota of Rajouri district, he said adding a woman was injured and a house damaged. In another encounter, BSF killed a Hizb militant during house-to-house searches at Kullar in Pahalgam area of Anantnag district, the spokesman said and identified the dead as Farooq Ahmad Hajam alias Aijaz.
