Srinagar: Democratic Freedom Party president Shabir Ahmad Shah today said he has respect for the policy of reconcilation adopted by Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee and said he believes that the PM is undertaking an uphill task. The DFP president was addressing a gathering at Kellar, Pulwama in which he also appreciated the efforts of Pakistani President Parvez Musharraf and Prime Minister Zafrullah Khan Jamali for restoring peace in the sub-continent. Shah also paid glowing tributes to the militants for the sacrifices offered by them. He said it is because of their sacrifices that Kashmir issue is live on international agenda. Shah said the relations between India and Pakistan are bound to affect the life of Kashmiris. He asked two countries to be friends and work out an acceptable solution of the Kashmir issue. Reacting to the recent announcement of Confidence Building Measures, he said, both countries should take the process of friendship forward. 'They should remove the hurdles', he said. The DFP president said nobody would be allowed to play with the 'movement'. He regretted that instead of forging unity, new parties are coming up and said this would prove devastating for the separatist struggle. Shah said the disunity among the separatist ranks has already caused huge loss to the 'freedom struggle' and time is still in the hands of the separatist leadership to forge unity. DFP president warned the separatist camp of inviting public outrage against them. 'They will have to face public wrath if they continue thinking on individual lines', he said. Shah said those who are working against the wishes of people and are interested in their own publicity would not be tolerated anymore. Referring to the release of Syed Abdur Rehman Geelani and Afshan Guroo in the parliament attack case, Shah hailed the efforts of Ram Jethmalani and his colleagues for securing their release. He hoped that they would make similar efforts to secure the release of Showkat Ahmad and Afzal Guru.
