Tarigami Seeks Amnesty For Armed Groups

New Delhi: Mohammed Yusuf Tarigami, leader of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) in Jammu and Kashmir, has called on the Government to offer 'an amnesty to all members of armed groups who are subjects of J&K to allow them to return to their homes and live in peace,' Speaking to The Hindu today, the veteran CPI (M) leader also welcomed the 'detente initiative between India and Pakistan.' Mr. Tarigami called on India and Pakistan to be imaginative in their approach in dealing with the return of the foreign members of the armed groups operating in the State.' The two Governments must facilitate the return of all foreign members of armed groups to their native countries.' He also called on both countries and the armed groups to desist from acts of violence, particularly those that affect the civilian population.
