In Valley, Guns Aren't Silent Yet

Jammu: Three persons were killed and a senior bureaucrat, his personal security guard, the driver of his official car and five others were injured on Sunday, when two militants, disguised in police uniform, fired at their vehicle near here. Immediately after the ambush on K B Pillai - a chief secretary-rank officer posted as director- general, Institute of Management and Public Administration - the militants fled to the Mahamaya forests on the outskirt of Jammu, where a gunbattle ensued with security personnel. One of the militants and a policeman of the dog squad were killed in the exchange of fire, police said. The firefight was continuing till late evening, and soldiers cordoned off the area. The attack on Pillai was the first in years on a high-ranking government official in J&K. The identity of the group the militants belonged to was not immediately known.
