Islamabad: The Secretary General of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC), Dr Abdelouahed Belkeziz, in his statement to the 60th session of the Human Rights Commission in Geneva Tuesday expressed full support and solidarity of the Organization of Islamic Conference with the struggle of the Kashmiri people for their right to self- determination. The Secretary General stated 'the situation in Kashmir calls for the people there to be given opportunity to exercise their self-determination and for the implementation of international legitimacy resolutions that were issued by the Security Council over half a century ago. We do welcome the détente in relations between Pakistan and India and express the hope that the current relaxation in relations would favorably impact on the situation in Kashmir and would lay the foundations for an early and equitable solution to the issue'. The Secretary General also referred to the tragic human rights violations in Palestine, the rising campaign of Islamophobia accusing Islam of being an outright enemy of human rights, early restoration of sovereignty to Iraqi people and need for measures to protection and safeguard rights of Muslim minorities wherever these rights are violated. •
