US military team visits held Kashmir

SRINAGAR: A US military general and Britain's High Commissioner to India visited occupied Kashmir on Wednesday. Gen Kevin P. Byrnes and a team of senior US army officials held talks with the Indian army's chief in held Kashmir , Lt Gen Nirbhay Sharma, said an Indian military statement in Srinagar. 'The Indian army chief briefed the visiting US army officers on the current situation,' the statement said, calling the visit a 'sign of increasing military-to-military cooperation' between the two nations. And Britain's top envoy to India began a three-day 'study trip' to held Kashmir with praise for talks between militants and New Delhi. High Commissioner Sir Michael Arthur's three-day visit came three days before a second round of discussions to be held this weekend between the moderate wing of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference and Indian Deputy Prime Minister Lal Krishna Advani. The two sides began a dialogue in January, the first high-level talks between the two sides since the start of the freedom movement in 1989.
