Army chief in J&K, to review situation

Srinagar: Chief of Army Staff General NC Vij arrived in Srinagar on Thursday to take stock of the ground situation and other Army operations in the Kashmir Valley, defence sources said. Gen Vij, who arrived in Srinagar on Thursday morning, flew to the border areas of the Valley to review the situation including the fencing work going on along the line of control (LoC), the sources said. They said Vij would later meet the General Officer Commanding of Srinagar-based 15 corps Lt Gen Nirbhay Sharma who would brief the Army chief on the ongoing anti-militancy and goodwill programmes for civilians launched by the force. Vij is also likely to visit Leh later on Thursday to review the arrangements for president APJ Abdul Kalam's visit to Siachen.
