'Saboteurs Of Peace Behind Lone, Mirwaiz Killings'

Srinagar: Congress said the forces sabotaging the peace process in Kashmir were behind the killings of Awami Action Committee founder Mirwaiz Mohammad Farooq and People's Conference founder Abdul Gani Lone. Pradesh Congress Committee senior vice president Abdul Gani Vakil was addressing a function here organised to pay tributes to former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, a Congress spokesman said. 'Late Mirwaiz and Lone were killed by those people who are putting hurdles in the restoration of peace in Jammu & Kashmir', he said. Tributes were also paid to Mirwaiz and Lone on their death anniversary. Wakil said the state unit of the Congress would completely support any move of the central government that is aimed at restoring peace in the state and ending the blood-shed. Referring to the decision of the Congress president Ms Sonia Gandhi to decline the prime ministerial berth, he said, the decision has broken the back of communal forces in the country. 'It has added a new chapter and glorified the name of the country', he said. The speakers paid tributes to the former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi who said that within a short span of time he did a commendable job for the country. Other Congress leaders including Abdul Majeed Padar, Mohammad Anwar Bhat, Amreen Badar and Khem Lata Wakhloo also addressed the gathering. A blood donation camp was also organized.
