Gilgit: The Northern Areas administration, Pakistan Army and paramilitary forces demolished 30 houses in Nomal village in Chilmisdas, 3 kilometres from Gilgit late on Wednesday night. The authorities occupied 3,000 kanals of land, official sources said. Sources said a curfew was imposed in the 6,000 kanal Chilmisdas area surrounding the Karakorum International University (KIU) before the operation.According to Online, the authorities arrested 20 innocent women and children after the operation. The houses were bulldozed after the residents were forcefully evicted. Official sources the land had already been allotted for the construction of KIU campus and other government departments. The officials had claimed that the residents of Nomal village were illegally occupying the government land, but the residents said the land was adjacent to their village and came under 'Shamilat' land, hence they had the occupancy rights over the Chilmisdas land.
