Jammu: Chief patron of the National Conference (NC) and former Chief Minister Dr Farooq Abdullah today accused New Delhi for 'trampling' social and ethical norms in Jammu and Kashmir and making the life of people here 'miserable'. He said that NC was always favouring dialogue between India and Pakistan over Kashmir while asserting that the party would not hesitate to give any sacrifice for the success of Indo-Pak dialogue. Addressing the NC workers and senior party leaders, Dr Farooq Abdullah said that his party always believed in dialogue for the resolution of the Kashmir issue. He pointed out that the dialogue would be fruitful only if it was based on the spirit of friendship and sincerity. 'Element of sincerity and sense of friendship are key to the success of talks between India and Pakistan. This will also lead to the end of violence, economic bankruptcy and unemployment,' he elaborated. Recalling the past, the former Chief Minister emphasised that the National Conference was punished time and time again for harbouring this ideology. 'Top brass of the NC like Sheikh Sahib (Sheikh Mohammed Abdullah), Mirza Mohammed Afzal Baig, Moulana Masoodi, Sofi Mohammed Akbar, Khawja Ali Shah, Khawja Mohiuddin Qarra were imprisoned only for advocating this ideology. Several thousand party workers were brutally tortured. And their only crime was that they were nationalists striving for the development of the people here,' he explained. 'However, New Delhi always played foul games and instead thrust its puppet governments on Kashmiris. They not only put Kashmiris to untold miseries but also trampled social and ethical norms in the State, thus ruining the law and order of paradise like our beloved nation,' he continued. Farooq told the NC workers that a many times these 'puppet' governments behaved more 'arrogantly and ruthlessly' than autocratic rulers. 'Our party cadres were jailed, their homes damaged and their children were denied education. Our leadership was framed in false conspiracy cases like Kud conspiracy case, Hazratbal murder case and they were labelled as agents of Pakistan and America. This all was being perpetuated under a plan and on the other hand local puppet rulers continued to erode special constitutional rights of the State,' he thundered. The NC patron insisted that same rulers were installed at the helm of affairs in the State under a 'game plan'. 'These people are eternal enemies to the national identity of the State and are void of any sacrifice. They talk high about peace and development but the reality is that itís only lip service. Otherwise also, they canít do anything,' he added. On the occasion, several other party leaders addressed the meeting and blamed the Mufti Mohammed Sayeed-led coalition Government as 'miserable failure'.
