Srinagar: Itihadi force, a seven-member group formed by the unified Hurriyat Conference constituents, would strive to unify the split-up outfit, its member and president elect of the Bar Association Mian Abdul Gayoom said on Friday. Gayoom, a staunch supporter of the unification of the faction-ridden Hurriyat Conference, defeated his rival GN Shaheen by over 200 votes to get elected as the president of the Bar Association, an erstwhile off shoot of the undivided Hurriyat. GN Dar was elected vice president and Ajaz Bedar as the general secretary of the association, a Bar association spokesperson added. Gayoom, serving his second term as the president, termed his re-election as a verdict for unification of the Conference. Itihadi force was formed immediately after the Hurriyat split last year. Besides the Bar that heads the force, its other members are JKLF, J&K People's League, Jamaat-e-Islami, Democratic Freedom Party, Jamiat-e-Hamdani and Jamiat-e-Ahlihadees, all of which are erstwhile constituents of the undivided Hurriyat.
