Equal uplift chances to N. Areas assured

Islamabad: Prime Minister Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain on Wednesday assured a delegation from the Northern Areas of equal uplift opportunities to bring the region at par with the developed part of the country. The team, led by Federal Minister for Northern Areas and Kashmir Affairs Dr Ghazi Gulab Jamal and comprising the elected representatives from the region, called on him at the Prime Minister's House. The prime minister assured the delegation that the government was taking special measures to expedite uplift activities in the Northern Areas. Developmental schemes, he said, would be initiated in the region under the Khushhal Pakistan Programme and in consultation with the representatives of the areas. In the schemes, the areas which had so far been ignored would be given priority, he added. The premier also mentioned efforts for promoting tourism in the region through the Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation. The delegation on this occasion appreciated the role the prime minister for the betterment of the region. The representatives drew the attention of the prime minister to the problems of health, education and communication in their respective areas.
