Hizb's Pir Panjal Commander Killed In Shootout

Jammu: The Rajouri police on Wednesday killed the chief commander of Hizbul Mujahideen in Pir Panjal Ranges, Abu Safia alias Talah Afiqi. Safia, who belonged to Lahore, infiltrated into Jammu region in 1997. He was a high-profile militant with a record of killing at least 50 civilians in the last seven years. He was also involved in the killing of minorities. Safia was instrumental in planning, organising and arranging militant activities in the two districts, the police said, adding, he was notorious for issuing 'diktats' and terrorising locals. He had set up several militant hideouts, besides establishing a strong network south of Pir Panjal ranges.
