New Delhi: National Conference said on Friday that Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf's proposal to demilitarise one of the seven regions in Kashmir was welcome; but ultimately the state should be given autonomy.'The proposal is welcome as a run up to the actual dialogue process. But we have to give autonomy,' National Conference President Omar Abdullah said. Speaking on the sidelines of CII conference, where he avoided a direct reply to a question on Musharraf's proposal, he said it was an 'old one' and 'we should think in terms of giving autonomy to the state and try to arrive at a consensus on the matter. Musharraf on October 25 suggested that India and Pakistan consider the option of identifying some 'regions' of Kashmir on both sides of Line of Control, demilitarise them and grant them the status of independence or joint control or under UN mandate.
