Srinagar: Police registered a case against seven Army personnel, who allegedly gang-raped a woman in Anantnag district of South Kashmir. According to offical sources, the case was registered after residents of Sonibrah village in Mattan area took to streets and staged a demonstration demanding punishment to the erring personnel, allegedly involved in outraging the modesty of a 19-year-old woman. The victim's family alleged that troops of Rashtriya Rifles during patrolling intruded into their house at Sonibrah on Thursday night and gang-raped the woman after forcing all inmates out on the pretext of conducting searches. The woman, who was married only a few months ago, was immediately taken to Mattan hospital by her family and was undergoing treatment there, the sources said, adding the medical report is awaited. The incident led to widespread protests by the locals who assembled outside Mattan police station this afternoon and staged a demonstration demanding action against the erring personnel, the sources said. They, however, dispersed, when police registered a case and assured proper investigation to bring the culprits to book, the sources said. An official at Mattan police station confirmed registeration of the case but was yet to ascertain the Army unit involved in the incident.
